Aminosalicylates for induction of remission or response in Crohn's disease

The initial aim of treatment for Crohn's disease is to induce remission. The aminosalicylates, sulfasalazine and mesalazine are popular first-line treatments for patients with mild or moderate disease, but clinical trials have had conflicting results. John Hilton, Editor at the Cochrane Editorial Unit, spoke to Stephen Hanauer, chief of the gastroenterology and nutrition section at the University of Chicago Medical Center in the USA, about the Cochrane Review that examines the evidence.
